"Dad!"  The winged stallion panicked when he received no answer.  Blue jumped back when his father suddenly disappeared in a flash of light, the pegasus hovering a frightened distance away from the scene.  "Burgundy, what happened?!"  His tone sounded more accusatory than intended.
"I sent him to Carmine, in the enchanters' sector," Burgundy replied.
Blue shook his head.  "Before that...!"
"He tried to resummon the barrier.  Most likely pushed himself too hard after what he did to you."
"Who is...Carmine...?  Where is the enchanters' sector?"  He swooped down to Bice, pleading, "Can you take me there?  Please!"
"I've been instructed to take you to Motley," Bice said.  Blue felt despair until the unicorn added, "and Motley is with the enchanters now.  Hold on."  Before Blue could guess what was about to happen, he was blinded by the same light Burgundy had used on his father.  By the time his vision readjusted, he was in a new field that expanded beyond what he ever dreamed of, littered with rocks and trees and busy with unicorns.  But he hadn't the time to admire it.
"Again?!" snapped a crimson mare with purplish red mane.  "How many times have I told him that guarding at the fortress was a bad idea?"
"Carmine, you know why he's doing it," said a bright purplish-red stallion.  "I'd do the same thing if Roseate were involved, and so would you if it concerned Maroon."
"Really, Fuchsia?" Carmine snorted.  "I wouldn't have Maroon involved in the first place.  Honestly, Motley knew what he was getting himself into back then.  And now look at him.  He deserves it!"
"Carmine!  Th-that's his son!  Right there!"
Blue shied away at that, but kept his eyes on his father who was lying in front of the two.
    "Well, it's true," Carmine muttered.
    "Never mind that.  Step aside."
Blue watched Fuchsia touch his horn to Motley's, the same way Aquamarine and Xanthous had done to his sister.
"He just needs to sleep," the stallion reported.  "Same as last time."
"He can sleep with the non-enchanters, where he belongs," Carmine growled scornfully, turning away from him.
Blue chose to ignore the mare, and laid down beside his father, whose heaving breaths had began to regulate.  "Does this happen often...?"
"Often enough," Fuchsia sighed.  "But Carmine is right about one thing: he should be with the non-enchanters."
"But he can use magic just like the rest of you."
"Yes, but having coupled with..." --he seemed to be trying to think of a word other than 'pegasus'-- "...your mother, resulted in the loss of his privilege to live here.  Motley can only be here when he's needed by Piceous, and sometimes us, mainly to..." Fuchsia trailed off.
"To wipe memories," Blue finished for him.
"So you're not as dumb as you look," said Carmine.  "His only hope for redeeming himself is that memory spell.  But pegasi had to put an end to that, now, didn't they?"
Her open hostility made Blue wary of her, though he knew it was not his place to disagree.  He couldn't help but wonder, "What's stopping you, or any other unicorn, from learning it?"
"The spell in question was created by Analogous, your great grandfather," said a new voice.  Fuchsia, Bice, and Carmine bowed their heads upon the arrival of the tall unicorn as dark as night who claimed it.  "And every attempt made to teach it to anyone except his descendants resulted in failure.  Not even my father Piceous could use it."  He looked toward a dull silver mare who was grazing just past the medics.  "Cinereal, would you so kindly take Motley's place for the day?"
"Yes, Tenebrous," the unicorn obeyed, disappearing in a flash.
He turned back to Blue, who stared at the dark stallion in disbelief.  This was Tenebrous, son of Piceous?  Analogous made the spell?
"What they've told you is true," Tenebrous said.  "Motley stays with the non-enchanters with his daughter.  But that doesn't have to be true, now."
"What do you mean...?" the  pegasus asked.
He leaned down, staring Blue in the eye; the latter felt a shiver run down his spine.  "How would you like to live here?  With Iridescence and Motley, of course?"
Blue's jaw dropped.  Beryl had given him a hard time when he wanted to enter Piceous's land, and now he was being asked to stay?  The pegasus turned back to his father, whom was in a deep sleep, unsure of what he nor his sister wanted.  Blue didn't plan to agree until he had their say in this--not to mention the rest of his family.  He promised Scarlet he'd return.
"Give it some thought," Tenebrous said as he walked away.  "For their sake, and your own."
